Overview

The On-site Cabling Team Lead is responsible for directing and leading a crew, as well as participating in the installation of premise network cabling systems.  

Responsibilities

  • Lead and instruct a team of cabling technicians, and properly documenting any red-line changes to drawing packages.
  • Perform the installation, labeling and testing of premise cabling, connections, patch cords, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, PDS conduit, and associated hardware.  
  • Update cable run sheets and other documentation as required.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in reading and interpreting system installation drawings and design packages.
  • Promote a safe work environment and implement safe work practices.
  • Provide guidance and perform quality assurance checks for subordinate cabling personnel in the installation, of LC, MTRJ, SC and RJ45 connector termination, and testing of fiber-optic and copper cabling systems, as well as various types of cable tray, PDS, and Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) conduit up to 4 inches. able to fusion splice fiber optic cable.

Qualifications

  • Clearance Requirement: Secret
  • A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in the installation of copper and fiber-optic cable plants.
  • Highly proficient in the installation and testing of premise cabling, connections, patch cords, patch panels, equipment enclosures/cabinets, cable tray, PDS conduit, and associated hardware.
  • Proficient in the techniques for fusion splicing, termination and outside plant installation.
  • Understand how to interpret work orders and prints to determine what is required per project.
  • Use of splicing technology such as OTDRs, VFL, OLTS.
  • Proper handling and installation of LC, MTRJ, SC, RJ45 connector terminations, and testing of fiber-optic and copper cabling systems.
  • Be proficient in the installation of various types of cable tray, PDS, and Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) conduit up to 4 inches.  
  • Be an effective communicator in coordinating installation work with subordinates and with office personnel.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License

Required certifications:

  • Permit-Required Confined Spaces Certification
  • Forklift Certification
  • Aerial and Scissor Lifts
  • Confined space certified for outside plant installations
  • BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) Certification or equivalent

Preferred but not required:

  • Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Technician
  • BICSI Installer 2, Copper (INSTC) and BICSI Installer 2
  • Optical Fiber (INSTF) certification
