Overview

The VP for Capture is a seasoned professional with demonstrated success in organizing and leading capture teams and managing all tasks and activities necessary to win new business. The VP Capture must be an effective communicator and strategist, who can bring knowledge and experience in responding to the needs and objectives of our Federal customers from prior positions in management and/or business development. He/she needs to be a motivated self-starter with ability to gain internal commitments and support.

The VP Capture is primarily responsible for focusing efforts and maintaining progress in the pursuit of specific business targets, working collaboratively with line management, business development, program management, technical, contracts, procurement and pricing personnel.

  • The work may include: support for expansion of existing accounts; development of business cases to quantify problem and solution values; pricing assistance; proposal content writing; development of marketing strategies and long-range business plans; providing technical expertise and support to qualify the opportunity and potential solutions; and presentation of MicroTech technical capabilities and solutions during marketing events and customer meetings.
  • Whenever possible, the VP Capture’s target assignments will be made in the early business development opportunity qualification phase.
  • Capture management responsibilities will continue through proposal submission, post submission orals and offer finalization, and post award debriefing and lessons learned.

Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with the Business Unit (BU) business development (BD) and proposal manager to develop and implement the detailed capture strategy and tactics, holding primary responsibility for the pre-RFP capture/marketing effort.
  • Prepare and maintain the capture plan and schedule, and secure BU BD approval of the plan, including interim approvals as it evolves.
  • Collect/document intelligence about the customer, procurement, competition, and price.
  • Negotiate with internal and external teammates.
  • Make presentations to the appropriate corporate and executive reviews.
  • Develop/approve win themes/discriminators.
  • Brainstorm solid and effective technical, operational, management, personnel, business and pricing strategies, approaches and/or solutions.
  • Assemble and manage the direction of the core capture team.
  • Identify potential BD risks and development avoidance and mitigation strategies.
  • Establish resource needs, including R&D, B&P, consultant, key hires, etc.
  • Respond to RFI or Sources Sought Information requests as appropriate, coordinating the requisite resources needed for a response and ensuring the right “message” is conveyed for the RFI response, and in consideration of MicroTech’s win strategy.
  • Develop pre-RFP requirements.

Qualifications

    • Ability to conceptualize a vision for winning, to develop a capture plan that implements the vision, adjust the vision as the procurement unfolds, and to manage the capture activities and team to achieve the vision.
    • Respected leadership, strong capture experience, and confidence in abilities to plan and execute a winning capture effort.
    • Backbone to maintain focus on the win strategy, thwart efforts to deviate from what is needed to win, and infuse the strategy and its resultant tactics to good effect.
    • Ability to understand customers’ needs and objectives –both MicroTech and the ultimate customers who will evaluate the proposal.
    • Strong written and verbal skills to effectively communicate the capture plan and status across the capture team and upwards to management.
    • Patience and people skills to achieve effective progress, anticipate problems, and keep capture activities moving forward.
    • Exceptional time management skills.
